I have been trying to think of a different way of selling my restored cases this is my current line of thought.

    DSC_0749[1] by my0771, on Flickr

I could just restore them and use the colours I think are best however in order to give more choice to any prospective owner I am thinking of offering them before I start allowing choice of interior and thread.

I thought I would ask readers here for their opinions.

    Thanks

I would show the bag before restoration. But include pictures of other restored bags so the person can see the options and possible final product.

For what my puny thoughts are worth - I would say you don't have to do them all the same way. Having one in process helps people see what you do, and someone may just like it and want it. But there will be people who will want a custom job, so do not feel you need to do all of them that way.

In general, I think just keeping some sort of restoration project going every now and then is helpful in sparking interest if you post it as you go. It would not have to be a big case every time. A smaller bag, an interesting old tooled walled - lots of options as to what it could be, but I do think keeping the projects visible helps new people find you and remind others who already know your work here/on your blog/other forums that you do this, and so well, and don't they want to make sure they get one...

Finally I have found time to finish this document case by adding a padded liner to the centre pocket I will be advertising it in the coming week in the classifieds section here not sure which part.
The asking price will be £300 sterling plus postage.

Sometime ago I bought a document style case from an auction site the inside is embossed with the ICI ltd logo it was in good condition although the stitching was in need of replacementand pressure would cause it to snap.

    DSC_0026[1] by my0771, on Flickr

    DSC_0262[1] by my0771, on Flickr

This is a good quality case and very well made things that show high quality are the inverted "V" on the securing straps and the hand made handle where multiple layers of leather are used to form the handle.

    DSC_0025[1] by my0771, on Flickr

Having removed all of the old stitching I started to clean everything inside and out with warm water and saddle soap

    DSC_0027[1] by my0771, on Flickr

I have dealt with handles like this once before and there are multiple layers often between 7 and 10 not wanting the whole thing to fall apart I unpicked one stitch at a time and replaced it with red 0.8mm Tigre thread this is a braided polyester thread.

These handles have a lovely curve and are very comfortable in use.

So the handle is now complete I just need to sort out the rest of the case now.

    Thanks for looking

Over the last few days I have made a little progress on the rest of this case.
All of the inside surfaces have been lined in red suede my pictures dont do this suede justice it is bright red.
The back panel and front section were first after attaching the handle and the metal bar that acts as its support.

    DSC_0043[1] by my0771, on Flickr

It turns out I had forgotten to remove the hasp piece from the front flap

    DSC_0044[1] by my0771, on Flickr

After I had removed the hasp I was able to stitch around the front edge and re attach the buckle straps

    DSC_0046[1] by my0771, on Flickr

I also added some detail stitching to the top of the front panel as well as the dividers it serves no function other than it looks good.

    Thanks Hawk

I thought that members would be tired of my work so I have tried only to share the more interesting items I am making.

Health wise I have taken much longer to recover from the most recent surgery and although I have more movement in the fingers of my right hand the nerve damage is permanent and still causes significant issues.

Thanks for the comments about the case it will be offered for sale as soon as it is finished

I have not had much time for briefcases lately in fact the ICI case is still in pieces.

I have however still been keeping an eye out for the special cases that appear from time to time. I spotted this one on an auction site I knew what it was as soon as I saw it. The seller did not know what they had and I did not feel comfortable bidding on it so I sent a message and the seller renamed the listing.
As it happens no one else bid so I won * This is how it arrived

The outside has a few dings and the brass is tarnished

    20170421_164401[1] by my0771, on Flickr

But the inside is very clean

    After an hour or so

    20170421_191654[1] by my0771, on Flickr

After 5 hours the brass looks like this

I have applied some conditioner to the outer leather and will start the inside soon.

    Thanks for looking

Let me assure you, not at all. Even though I am not in the market for a bag, I appreciate fine workmanship and find the process interesting as you restore these items (and, it appears, improve them from even what they were originally).

R.A. Stewart and Lady Onogaro I really do appreciate your comments.

It is an interesting case from an interesting company.

Papworth industries started as a tuberculosis colony in 1917*using "Pendragon" as a brand name from the 1930's to the 1970's when they changed to Papworth travel goods.*In 1997 they became part of Swaine Adeney Brigg*and still produce fine leather goods to this day. The Hospital is also still in operation too.

It is quite easy to read the "Pendragon" logo inside so I can safely say this case was made before 1970 when the brand name changed so the case is at least 47 years old

    Thanks again

    Michael
