Thanks to everyone for their kind messages it is appreciated my fracture is healing well and I am taking things slowly.

So my current bag project has taken a lot longer than planned.

I don't know the full history of this bag but the trade name is Pendragon which as far as I know is the trade mark of Papworth industries I have included a link for anyone who is interested

I have resisted the urge to clean all of the patina from this case or to polish it to a gloss finish.

The straps are in good condition so I have simply sewn them back in place.

    IMG_9058_1 by my0771, on Flickr

I like brass shinny but I have left this lock as it was I will be making a replacement key for it.

There is still a lot of sewing to do on this case and it may be a few weeks before it is completed

    Thanks for looking

I don't know if anyone remembers this little bag I had almost forgotten it myself I was unable to decide on what material to line it with.

Small gladstone bag by my0771, on Flickr

My wife does have some standard bag lining material and I was thinking as a change from suede I might try Tweed this bag will be offered for sale in the coming months

    Ideas welcome

Another Gladstone bag arrived very early this morning it is a middle size the small one in the previous post is 12 inches long x 4 inches wide the newest one is 15 inches long x 8 inches wide and the largest is 24 inches long x 10 inches wide which I may not have shared as yet.

the new bag is in a sorry state as you can see

bag 12 by my0771, on Flickr

    bag 12 b by my0771, on Flickr

At some point the bag has been dyed black there are some areas which have perished and may have to be replaced rather than patched but I wont know until I start cleaning the leather.

The inside of the bag has had a replacement lining fitted with a hole torn in it to allow access to these fitted pockets

    IMG_9184_1 by my0771, on Flickr

And what I hope were two pen holders

    IMG_9186_1 by my0771, on Flickr

The lining was held in place by these buttons which may be original as they are fitted into the structure of the bag

    IMG_9195 by my0771, on Flickr

There is a name inside of the bag of a Canadian Doctor who lived in the UK during the Second World War.

I have unpacked the bag but will put it away until I am ready to start when I have finished the other three bags I am currently working on

    Thanks for looking

At last I have found a colour for the replacement sides and base it looks almost the same as the front and back, the dye has dried and has had a coat of wax.
I have started to stick the back panel and front flap to the sides and base doing a couple of cm's at a time as you can see from the picture below I have not finished gluing it together

    IMG_9447 by my0771, on Flickr

The front still looks a little dry and is soaking up the leather conditioner as quickly as I can put it on

    IMG_9457 by my0771, on Flickr

I will be sewing it together as soon as I am able to.

    Thanks for looking

I have finished gluing the back and front together but unfortunately I am still unable to sew it together

    IMG_9494 by my0771, on Flickr

So I have done what I can the edges have been smoothed and I have started to apply the finish to them.

I noticed that the newer versions of this bag now have a shoulder strap and was thinking of making a strap to add to this one but I am unsure I don't have a use for this bag so I am pretty sure I will be offering it for sale when finished

    Thanks for looking

This is a picture of the modern version of this case with the shoulder strap and I can't decide wether to fit one or not it would make the case more useful but would add more work.

    http://www.swaineadeneybrigg.com/sto...mputer-case-76

My case was made by a company who became part of Swaine Aideny Brigg in the 1970 s the prices are not from the 70s though.

Wow!!! Did I read the price of that bag right!!!???

I think if you want to sell it, try to add a strap. Is it something you can add at the end of the process? To provide you time to see if you want to take the strap project on?

Ha ha yes you did read the price correctly but in my defence I showed the cheaper machine sewn version

    http://www.swaineadeneybrigg.com/sto...es/paternoster

This is the hand sewn one it is only £500 more if you bought a bag from Harrods or some other big brands chances are this company made it.
I am unsure how fitting the strap will effect the side gusset of the bag I think they may have reinforced their gusset to accommodate the strap. Once I fit it there is no going back and if it does not work the whole thing is scrap!
Thanks for responding it helps to see another point of view

If the strap can potential goof up the bag.....then skip it. The bag is not worth the risk. Maybe you could make the bag have a padded compartment for an iPad? Or maybe Velcro straps in another compartment to hold cords or headphones? Something to make up for a strap, entice someone to look beyond the strap and buy it?

Btw....that bag in the link is beautiful. If I had the $2500 I would skip the bag, fly somewhere warm for a week and get way from snow

I agree but the price was in £ not $ it is $3849 in U S dollars hard to believe I know.
The materials would cost about £350 and it would take me about 40 hours to make one so if anyone wants one please let me know

My restoration project will be priced a lot lower we can talk about prices here so I think it will be around $310so less than 10% of the cost of a new one.

I think your restored bag is much handsomer than the new ones. Have you decided whether or not to add a shoulder strap?
