Default Looking for a new fountain $250-400. Would love thoughts!

I have to buy it off Amazon (I get giftcards as company rewards all the time).
Looking for new only and not a $50 pen and lots of ink (have tons!)

I have a Waterman Carene, Pelikan M600, Parker Sonnet, Visconti Rembrandt, Pilot 74, Cross ATX, and a Waterman Expert.

Thanks in advance for your recommendations and/or holy grails!

Well, a lot comes down to taste, and there are a lot of choices. This would be for me, mind you, as I'm not sure what floats your boat, but I'll just mention what caught my eye after looking at some of what is on Amazon. I found one seller for a Pilot Custom 845 (I would go for he M or B nib, NOT the F, which I know is too fine for me). I have sometimes thought about a Delta Dolce Vita.

I went into Amazon, searched "fountain pen" which has it own category, entered your price parameters, and then browsed and clicked the best known brands. Increase the lower end parameter to narrow your focus. Make your choice!

By the way, Amazon offers plenty of books on fountain pens, even used and out-of-print books.

I've never reached or gone over $200 for a single pen, and probably won't. But if I were determined to spend that much for a single pen, one of the few pens in that range that I have considered is the Pilot Custom 823. Very attractive pen with a very cool filling system. And, quick check on Amazon, yes it's available there.

That's the range I tend to stay in. There are a lot of options. You can get a used MB 146 which are very nice pens, you might find a new one for closer to 400. I picked up my Pelikan M800 in that range and it was new. I know you can pick up a Visconti Lava in the 300 - 400 range. Then if you move to vintage there are tons of options.

I own a couple of the pens that you mention. Consider expanding on a brand of pen that interests you. That way you will have something familiar, yet something new. On the other hand, go for something different....

I love my Lamy 2000 so much that I have two of them: a fine as a daily writer and a broad for fun. That puts you above $250.

The Pilot Custom 823 is a great pen and has a unique filling mechanism. I also really like the Pilot Justus 95, which has a unique nib.

Not sure anyone has mentioned this--but maybe an edison? (http://edisonpen.com/). In case you're not familiar with them--Brian Gray makes some lovely hand-turned pens. I have one (a Pearl in Flecked Tortoise acrylic) that I love.

I also really like my one MB 146 (bought used at a pen show): it might be the pen I write with the most. A used one is certainly in your price range.

But I see that you want to buy new: Pelikan M800/M805 can be had in your range. Maybe: Sailor 1911 Large?

And it hides scratches, very well. Just don't try and fill the converter with sweaty fingers.
