Default Alternatives to "The quick brown fox..."

I always use "The quick brown fox..." to test pens and ink. I got a little bored with using the same sentence all the time, so I started looking for alternatives. Here is what I found:

    - Back in my quaint garden, jaunty zinnias vie with flaunting phlox.

    - Expect skilled sign writers to use many jazzy, quaint old alphabets effectively.

    - Pack my box with five dozen liquor jugs.

    - Several fabulous Dixieland jazz groups played with quick tempo.

    - Exploring the zoo, we saw every kangaroo jump and quite a few carried babies.

    - Jay Wolf is quite an expert on the bass violin, guitar, dulcimer, ukulele and zither.

    - The wizard quickly jinxed the gnomes before they vaporized.

    - I quickly explained that many big jobs involve few hazards.

    - Five or six big jet planes zoomed quickly by the new tower.

    Happy writing!!

I use "Blowzy night-frumps vex'd Jack Q." It's a little forced, but has every letter exactly once: very efficient!

My sister uses 'Monster got a baby by Meatball.'

    I write 'Fruits and Meats.'

I'm testing a pen, not trying to remember the alphabet!

I think someone once used here part of the Gettysburg address & the quick brown fox...etc.:
"Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of a lazy dog".

    I kinda like that one.

Pangrams are for testing typewriters at speed and of late for displaying fonts. For pens you might as well write whatever you like as long as it contains strokes of sufficiently varied types. I also need to test vertical strokes in rapid succession, down and up. Can't get that with a pangram, obviously.

I'm still a sucker for "EGYPT"...

It does enough nib strokes quickly!

Rinkworks.com is fun for pangrams and palindromes, isn't it?

Mike is correct; pangrams aren't nearly as good for fountain pens as they are for keyboards. To do justice for a fountain pen, one needs odd and difficult letter combinations & transitions. Somewhere around here is a thread of (mostly very long and grammatically atrocious) practice sentences.

One I have formulated for my students to practice cursive is:
"The Egyptian pachyderm wheedler (formerly a beggar) quickly, but not quite quietly, recited the obnoxious mnemonic, 'Kicking Kites Typically Cleanses Prunes.' He dipped bagged bagels into enormous vats of pure puce puke juice in an unfruitful attempt to ascertain, and ultimately analyze the syzygy of the dizzyingly illustrious movie star's squiggly, overgrown mauve xyst."
Online arguments are a lot like the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
As soon as the audience begins to participate, any actual content is lost in the resulting chaos and cacophony.
At that point, all you can do is laugh and enjoy the descent into debasement.

I appreciate the opportunity to comment on this article. I think it's important to have a variety of pangrams available so that people can choose one that they like and that suits their needs. I'm particularly fond of the more creative pangrams, such as the one from Hamlet and the one about the essay writing service mba sphinx. I encourage everyone to try out some different pangrams and see which ones they enjoy the most. Pangrams are a great way to practice typing and to learn new vocabulary. They can also be used to create interesting and memorable text.
