It's 1963 in Bodega Bay, and Melanie Daniels (Tippi Hedren) is writing a birthday card to Cathy Brenner with an Esterbrook, as part of an elaborate practical joke on Cathy's much older brother, Mitch Brenner (Rod Taylor), by delivering a surprise gift of love birds to the Brenner house by crossing the bay by motorboat. Watch out for seagulls!

Spoiled Miss Daniels probably opted for a 9xxx series nib!

The Netflix series "The Law according to Lidia Poët" is the story of the first woman to ever practice law in Italy. Set in 1883 Turin, this is a well made series with convincing props and truly marvelous wardrobe. Evidently there are no fountain pens, but some nice dip pens make their appearance.

This one, from Season 2 Episode 1, is a very interesting dip pen, most probably a "ladies model":

Besides the high production values, the series grapples very convincingly with issues of sex discrimination in a male dominated society. There is no preaching here, just some great film making with scenes and dialogue that portray male chauvinism in its most natural form.

"Away" is a Netflix 2020 tv series about the first space voyage to Mars. In one of the flashbacks, Chinese Mission Control specialist Mei Chen (Nadia Hatta) is amazed that astronaut Lu Wang (Vivian Wu) knows brush calligraphy. No fountain pens here but in this scene you can see a bottle of Hero ink at the right.

Mei asks Lu to teach her calligraphy, which she immediately sets out to do (hold the brush vertically and move the wrist):

The series is very well made but (spoiler alert) it was cancelled by Netflix after only one year. So I guess we'll never know if they made it to the red planet and back. I (expletive) hate it when good series are cut short like when the SyFy channel cancelled Stargate Universe and Caprica.

UPDATE: Just saw the final chapter in the (only) season and (spoiler alert) they finally made it to Mars. Oh well… at least the end of the season works well as the end of the series.
