Default Cleaning a Vintage 120: question

A friend gave me a vintage 120, several years ago, and I'm starting to use it more often. (In fact, I'm starting to get a keen interest in the brand, already having a collection of their fun student pens).

I do not know the 120s era, possibly 1960s...but can the nib unit in these older 120 pens screw out (as with a TWSBI) in order to make cleaning easier? It doesn't seem to 'want' to unscrew, and I don't want to force it.

    Thanks!

Yes it does. A little soaking in water should make easier to unscrew. It has normal right hand threads. I suggest that when removing the nib from Pelikans that you hold the nib and turn the barrel. That puts less stress on the collar.

And by right hand thread meaning: The nib pointed upwards it'll unscrew anti clockwise against the stationary barrel. That applies to both 120 types. Which one is yours?

Type 1 flat cap ring, flared section lip
Type 2 tapered cap ring, flat section lip

Watch out, coz the feeder fins on Type 1 are much more delicate than bombproof Type 2's.

Took a very BAD phone picture. I can't get a close-up of the underside, but would its shape/fins tell me anything about whether the nib is pull-out or screw-in?

Look down into the section mate. If the nib collar has two opposite notches it's most likely screw in type, else there's a (very) remote possibility of it being friction fit.

Thanks, just looked (with the help of a magnifying glass).

The collar appears to have three marks or notches, one long one at 12 o' clock, and two very much smaller and shallower at 9 and 3.
