Heat setting nibs
Hello fellow tinkerers,
Does anyone have much experience with this or have any resources/advice?
I have an ebonite feed into which I'd like to set an old waterman ideal #2 nib. Is ebonite heat setting friendly? The nib fits well enough, the only problem is that the curvature of the nib and feed don't line up, so the nib doesn't lay flat, rendering it useless.
I may end up sending it to a nib expert along with some other pens in need of tuning and grinding, but it seems like a good skill to have for my own little projects.
Any advice appreciated!

Re: Heat setting nibs
Not qualified to advise but interested in advice. I've tried it once on a Vacumatic with ebonite feed. I didn't destroy anything at least.

Re: Heat setting nibs
I typed "How to heat set a nib and feed" into Google and several results came up, but the first result was a Goulet Pens YouTube video showing how to heat set an ebonite feed. So it can be done:

Re: Heat setting nibs
I'm not an expert with this but here is something I found years ago by an expert:
http://www.penmuseum.co.uk/master2.htm
This is master class notes by Arthur Twydle. Look at the section titled Adjustment, especially paragraphs two through five.
The rest of the information there and linked above is priceless, too.
Best to you and your nib and feed,
Rick
