Just turned 66 last week, but I'm not retired yet. Feeling a bit rushed at work, but I manage to get some drawing done every day, and usually some painting too.

Simply outstanding!
In addition to being a fountain pen fan, I am a rail fan, especially a steam locomotive fan.
This effort is appreciated.

Beware the Ides of March?
Still slogging away. This is supposed to be a portrait of Emmanuel Lasker, world chess champion from 1894 to 1921. It looks a little bit like him. This was a study for a watercolor, but I haven't done a watercolor version that I like yet. I'll try again.

And this was based on a photo of his predecessor as world champion, Wilhelm Steinitz. Doesn't look like him at all, except in a generically stout, bearded, 19th century sort of way. But I was experimenting with the really cheap watercolor paints shown, which I added on a whim to a Jet Pens order. When you get 16 watercolors for $5.50, you know you're not getting the best. These are supposedly "pearlescent" or something like that, with a metallic sheen that doesn't show up very well in the photo. And the paper is the next to last sheet I had of my cheapest (although supposedly 100% cotton) 140 lb. watercolor paper. But I won't blame the materials, and I've actually found these paints kind of interesting to work with. They're a bit more opaque than my good paints, and I don't mind the rather subdued look.
.
The photo it's based on can be found here, and I found myself wondering what writing instruments Steinitz had in his pocket.

I was going to wait until the first of next month to post anything else I had done recently, but it occurred to me that that date might have unfortunate connotations if I hoped to be taken at all seriously.
A book that I have on portrait drawing advises against doing portraits of people one knows well, at first, as it will bother you more when your portrait doesn't look at all like them. It's actually talking about watercolor portraits, but I've certainly attempted enough pencil and pen portraits to appreciate the advice.
Still, I thought that this sketch, of a friend who I've know for more than 30 years, did not turn out too much unlike her. Done with a Tombow 0.3 mm mechanical pencil.

What an expressive portrait @Kaputnik. I once read, in another book to draw a portrait upside down, to cancel the critical left side brain

M: I came here for a good argument.
A: No you didn't; no, you came here for an argument.
M: An argument isn't just contradiction.
A: It can be.
M: No it can't. An argument is a connected series of statements intended to establish a proposition.
A: No it isn't.
M: Yes it is! It's not just contradiction.
A: Look, if I argue with you, I must take up a contrary position.
M: Yes, but that's not just saying 'No it isn't.'
A: Yes it is!
M: No it isn't!
