And it's here...
Was sold as New Old Stock, which the body and such seemed so, the cleaning of the old ink clearly said otherwise but yes it came in very good condition on the outside. The flocking of the old plastic fake "velvet" was all over as a form of dust so had to clean that. Came with two early parker squeeze converters as well (one installed, one sitting loose).

This came today, an early 1940s bandless Esterbrook Dollar Pen. Has a 2788 "Flexible Medium" nib that sadly looks like it's been abused (a straight symmetrical crack on both sides near the shoulders of the nib). Fortunately I have spare nibs so I can choose to put in a 9550, 9668, or 2134-F Relief nib.
Shown cleaned up (without sac and grip installed yet), next to the arrival state.

I don't think people realize those Esterbrook "flexible" nibs aren't that flexible.

Yea for a 'vintage' they're similar to the ease of the noodlers flex, but not meant to be pushed very much, they were just designed to give a little flare in the writing. So on used ones it's not surprising to see damage like that, thankfully it wasn't a 9xxx series or that would have hurt more.
I'm not a huge fan of the Esterbrook pens, but the Dollar Pens are kind of neat, would have preferred trying to find the early hard rubber one, but found that one for 15 shipped and it cleaned up pretty good. The 9550 I got a while back on a near perfect J is a really decent writer so have it in the Dollar pen now with the larger sac.

Hey , I’m almost certain that the cracks are a design !!! I’ve seen many nibs with that exact set up , usually dippers, but I’ve seen FPs with it too ! And, I’m pretty sure it would be almost impossible to crack a nib like that.
Also yeah , I have a 2048 in one Esterbrook, and it’s written up as 'Flexible Fine' but the only way to get ANY flex out of it is to lean on it so hard that writing becomes impossible. 🤣 similar in a way to FPR nibs calling themselves flex…when they are just so not flexy….
Got a TWSBI 580 Iris from Pendleton Brown with his BLS nib (this time with flex!) All my favorite writers have the regular BLS nib….

I got three pens recently:
1. A clipless Majohn A1 because I got the fish scale version with the clip and it hurt my hand to use it for even a short time. The clipless version feels SO much better and writes really well!
2. A Kaweco Sport Iridescent Pearl. I’ve been wanting a few good pocket pens to use as everyday carry items and I waffled for quite a while on the Sport. Despite its low price, it seems like a real love it or hate it pen. Finally I decided to bite the bullet and get one with a pack of midnight blue Kaweco ink carts and…it’s decent. Feels fine in my hand but isn’t going to become a favorite writer. For about the same price I prefer the Pilot Prera, which I do also have in my bag, but it’s cheap enough that I don’t regret it. I do notice some skipping, and I have heard Sport nibs can be really hit or miss, so I may need to do some tuning to get it working at its full potential.
3. Ensso Piuma ultem. I intended to order the pocket pen version, but accidentally ordered the full size and I’m really glad I did! The Ultem is light but feels solid and substantial. The nib writes well with a bit of feedback that is very pleasing. I really like the Piuma design from an aesthetic perspective, but a fully rounded pen with no clip is prone to rolling off a writing surface. That one quibble aside, I am very impressed with this pen and will definitely be checking Ensso’s site on Black Friday for deals on their other models.
Picked up what I thought was going to be a standard size (there wasn't anything for size reference in the photos), ended up with what seems to be a very teeny tiny clipped version of a marine green balance.
Took a fair bit of heat and coaxing to get the grip out of what seemed to be a pretty thin barrel lining. Likewise the sac nipple is pretty thin up against the feed rod. Instead of knocking out the feed since the nib came out pretty easy, used heat to work it back in after cleaning.
Next to my Oversized Marine Green with a flexible Fine.

I know the background would be more appropriate for a Japanese pen than a Sheaffer, but it was handy and purty. Oversized Balance from the 1930s. I'll be using this one mostly for drawing.
