Ink Review: Lamy Blue Black

This is my review of Lamy Blue Black (cartridges)

Lamy Blue-black Quink is not a new ink, it is well known to most people and I may have used it and forgot about it. I had it in my to-test list for a while in my quest for blue blacks.

It's been available since the 1960s and can be bought in cartridges or in bottle (the bottles have a nifty blotting paper roll). I understand the color has changed significantly in the last few years as the old ink had iron gall and the new one doesn't.

I rarely use the Safari fountain pen I have, evenin the F nib this ink goes down nicely, flows well and the width of the lines is true to nib. Initially the color is a a black-blue which turns blue-black after drying. The color is less saturated than I like, and it while I find the color appealing, it is just not the most appealing; to be honest it is very similar to Diamine Prussian Blue being the Lamy a little more blue.
This is a business/work ink, thus the color doesn't stand out too much and allows for clear communication and writing; it is clearly a dark blue, bluer than Diamine Prussian blue, but less intense that Parker blue black.

This ink doesn't feather or spread in good paper (Black n'Red notebook)
It shows some water resistance but not much.

This ink is a good and safe ink, works in any pen, especially when testing or learning; and for $12 for 50ml is a great value for the money.

Flow Rate: Good.
Lubrication: Excellent
Nib Dry-out: Good, Takes a while to dry
Saturation: Decent, for a business ink
Shading Potential: None observed (Lamy F nibs)

Nib Creep / “Crud”: no
Staining (pen): Easy clean-up (old one was harder to clean)
Staining (hands): Very easy clean-up off of skin.
Clogging: No
Water resistance: A little
Availability: Universally available

Chroma in paper towel shows some water resistant of the dark blue dye, while the light blue is very soluble.
