Does anyone use phenol in their inks?
I've heard so many people say that Sailor uses phenol in their inks with no real source other than hearing it on the internet that I'm wondering if it's all just rumors at this point. Sailor inks certainly have a strong smell, but it reminds me of tempura paint's older brother, and I would never describe it as "sickly sweet", which is apparently what phenol is supposed to smell like. But I've never smelled phenol before, and you know what, maybe there's some kind of chemical reaction that goes on in the ink to make it smell different. Who knows?
So it would be helpful if anyone could chip in who:
1. Has an MSDS or similar document from Sailor showing that they do or don't have phenol in their inks.
2. Has smelled phenol before, and thinks that Sailor inks definitely (or definitely don't) smell like phenol.
3. Adds or has added phenol to an ink before and noticed that the smell changed somehow and became more similar to what Sailor inks smell like, or that the smell isn't like what Sailor inks smell like at all.
