Hi everyone! Just getting into writing instruments after I found an assortment of fountain pens that belonged to my granddad and dad. My research in how they worked, how to restore them, how to care for them, etc led me here. I never fathomed how many different makes/models there were. Hard to pin them all down for a noob. (catch that?)
Anyway, what I've learned so far is the 3 that we're my grandfather's pens are a sheaffer balance white dot (of some vintage and probably extra name/number I haven't been able to locate,) a sheaffer balance Jr. and an Esterbrook (red and all I can make out on the nib is 1555)
The white dot balance was the only one the section easily pulled away from. Appears someone went at it with pliers in the past. 😢 As I soaked and disassembled it to get dimensions for a new sac, I realized the feed was broken. So I'll have to take some more measurements and source that as well.
All the pens of my dad I haven't really looked into yet, but will be. I know there's a Parker with some info on the inside about squeezing the metal to fill it, some cartridge sheaffer etc. I'll try to put a few pics up of the first three I mentioned.
Thanks for reading!
Jason

Receive a warm welcome from sunny Puerto Rico!
Those are nice pens and the fact that they were your grandad's makes them very special.

The numbers on the Sheaffer pens are the original MSRP; for example 275 would have been $2.75, 500 would have been $5.00 etc.
