I’m sort of a new member

Greetings fellow pen enthusiasts. I joined FPG in 2014. I joined FPN in 2012. I didn’t know about introduction messages back then. I just joined, learned, read, got help from members (both places) and got enabled to buy desk sets, inks, pens.

My favorite nibs are stub and italic nibs. My first pen was a Waterman Laureat II or III. It is blue, with a F nib. When I bought it, I was told I could send it in to add my name or a nib swap. I bought it with an M nib, sent it off for nib swap and to have my name engraved. It’s the only pen with my name on it. Looking back, I wish I’d kept the M nib. That’s what the pen journey is about. Learning what you like, and sharing the joy of fountain pens.

Right now in my life, I am the solo caregiver of my Mom. A friend who is a nurse told me what I do for my Mom is like being a nurse’s aide. One of my brothers is coming to visit for 10 days. He was the first to go down the fountain pen rabbit hole. I had one pen, bought in 1996 until probably 2012. Then I was down the rabbit hole, happily. Hopefully he’ll bring some of his new pens to show me. I have yet to buy a pen this year….

My first FP was a Laureat, too! The first version, I believe, purchased in Vienna in 1993 or 4, also F, though I don't regret that - as you might have guessed.

I've said it before, I'll say it again - you are a saint. It's a brutal job (having helped my wheelchair-bound brother for 2 months, I feel qualified to say this). We were able to create various mechanical and procedural ways for him to care for himself by the time I left, but that's not really an option for aging parents. Bless you for your service to your mom!
