    Default Turquoise...

    Hello all,
I'm looking to branch out from the usual blacks and go for something more unique.
    Turquoise.
Although not just any turquoise, I'm looking for a speicfic hue of it: dark enough to be office and signature friendly, yet shady. Something akin to how Sailor Sky High behaves. I don't care for the sheen though. Is there anything that matches it?

Check out the Anderson and Goulet pen stores websites, and use their ink tools to narrow down the color you want. Anderson has a turquoise category.

Sky High is an awesome ink, one of my favorites but imho no turquoise ink, for me it’s true light blue.

Maybe Colorverse Crystal Planet could be an option for you.

Montblanc Miles Davis is also nice, but it was a limited ink and would be difficult and expensive to stock.

You can also look at KWZ Azure #4

    Or Rohrer & Klingner Marlene.

Or a real turquoise ink like:

Rohrer & Klingner Blu Mare is also an awesome very bright light blue.

Pterodactylus, thanks for your comprehensive reply. Fantastic inks, and great penmanship! I especially like Colorverse Crystal Planet.
Seems a very close match to me.
    And that 4001... Just wow!
    Off to shop, I go!

I agree with Pterodactylus. Sailor Sky High is a sky blue rather than a turquoise. Turquoise inks can lean more green or more blue and samples may be the way to go when choosing your favourite. Similar colours to Sky High are Pelikan Edelstein Topaz, Diamine Florida Blue, Presidential Blue or Mediterranean Blue. You might also look at slightly deeper colours like Waterman Serenity Blue, Pilot Irishizuku asa gao or Diamine Asa Blue.
Once you find some you like by looking at swabs, then try getting samples of them before spending a lot of money on a bottle.

You might also look into Monteverde's Horizon Blue. It's alleged by some to be a Parker lookalike but I find it nearer turquoise.

Do we have a price range mentioned here? The MV is at the lower end, but at the opposite end is Iroshizuku Ku-Jaku...nicely dark and dusky.
My other pen is a Montblanc.

And my other blog is a tumblr!

Personally I do not like Ku-Jaku, imo it is a very flat (dead looking) color.

My picture may look not flat but this Swan is a gusher with a super flex nib, with almost all other nib/paper combinations you will get a really flat tone without shading.

    Hello Sailor Kenshin,
I usually do not buy premium inks, and the Corverse is a bit out of my comfort zone.
But it's two bottles, so why not?
Though, now I wonder if diluting some boring blue ink would yield a similar result.

I second Chrissy's methodology of looking at swabs, then buying samples (says me, who wishes I had done that when looking for black inks!) 😜

Have you considered Kon-Peki? It's dark, not too bright, and office appropriate.

Aquafox, R& K Marlene is waterproof.
J Herbin's Bleu Pervenche might fit the bill.
Monteverde's Horizon Blue doesn't look turquoise to me.
I added Monteverde Caribbean for contrast....

I find Lamy turquoise to be both shady and sheeny, though perhaps not quite dark enough for your purposes. Also a pretty good match for Montblanc Balzac.

Unfortunately, I just cleaned it out of a pen, so I can't show you, but KWZ (IG) Turquoise is a great ink, if you can put up with the iron gall issues.

    Get samples
Many times I think I love the ink but when I get a sample, I'm unimpressed.
And then the weird ink, which I thought I wouldn't like, is the one that I fall in love with

I second, or third?, the recommendation to order samples. Most sample vials will fill a pen twice. If you don't love the color you're not out the extra cost of a full bottle. And if you're like many of us that rotate through and love to try new things you'll not regret the full bottle that sits on the shelf for 3 years before you remember it and come back to it.

If you want to PM me an address I will see what I can do about packaging up a few sample vials and sending them to you. I have Pelikan Edelstein Topaz, Caran d'Ache Hypnotic Turqouise, Lamy Turquoise, and Colorverse Crystal Planet. Might have some other options if you want to branch out to other blues. Parker Quink Blue-Black isn't as vibrant as the turquoise inks, but performance is really good and it's more permanent than any of the above.

If you're willing to buy samples from the UK then there's The Writing Desk - massive number of samples - I chose my turquoise and teals through them - for turquoise I'm a big fan of Lamy - I'm not so sure it is that light (which some one else warned) but it could be borderline for you.
