Charging so much for the ink that you can't afford the envelope.

It's an exercise in proving you are a lifestyle brand. When your name is big enough that people willingly pay double for your pens why not ask them to pay double for your inks?

Is there an upper limit that people will pay for inks, I guess that MB believe that people will pay $71 for 50 ml this year, will they pay $100 next year, or $200 if the ink is a re-release of ERG with a numbered limited edition?

There are people who will pay whatever the brand asks, because they can.

And that's when it's no longer about fountain pens.

We might be there already Fred, some of these pens are just jewelry, personal taste as always. I can admire the craftsmanship that goes into some of the exotica, but it terms of buying and using some of these LEs, it doesnt work for me. Each to their own.

Yes I think these inks aren't aimed at people like me, they are aimed at those who have much deeper pockets.

At £50 per bottle I will pass....

Well, people did and do pay quite a bit for some of the Sailor inks. But I'm not paying that.

Interesting colours and price wise they're on a par with inks from Hieronymous of Switzerland - i'll be keen to see reviews.

What the hell happened to the FPN thread?

I read some muppet saying you would have to be crazy to buy ink at that price, someone else got pi55ed at that comment, saw a joke and then bang - we are on lock down.

Makes you wonder if MontBlanc ......................no it cannot be so.

I posted to it just before. Think there has been a warning about keeping on track and a number of MB shrills are starting to complain, but all presently seems fine. I'm sure in MB are unhappy Wimg will kill it dead without a second thought ...

There were two threads about it running on FPN at the same time, and the usual suspects who never intended to focus specifically on ink were coming out of the woodwork. So Kalessin posted:

"Please keep the discussion in this thread focused on ink. Please do not make personal comments about gullibility, prestige, the intelligence of buyers, etc, as the conversation is sliding towards insults and flamewar."

When I last looked that thread wasn't locked, but the other one may have been, so they could stay on one.

It was cleaned up, locked down, now reopened.

I didnt know what Flamewar meant, to save others the trouble of looking it up

A flame war is a heated argument between two individuals, that results in those involved posting personal attacks on each other during or instead of debating the topic at hand

Some new trolling posters have joined in, why does MB attract the dipsticks of the world?

I suspect it's Montblanc's luxury branding attracting the type of people craving symbols of, and sensitive to, social class. Slights against MB products are taken personally by fanboys and they respond inappropriately.

I think it's great that MB is selling a $70 bottle of ink because now I won't have to debate buying one. I own a few Bung Box inks but justified the price because the inks were hard to get in the US or had to be imported directly from Japan. I see no reason to pay $70 for a MB ink. Maybe I'll wait for Anderson Pens to sell empty bottles then fill the bottles with something more affordable.

I see that Kalessin has reopened the thread on FPN. He wrote: "I had briefly closed this topic thread, reread the whole thing, and decided to re-open it. If conversation starts sliding back into the negative, then I will lock it again.

I always hope people can be gentle and civilized, even on controversial issues, and it's only very rarely that I need to remove posts or lock or remove topic threads."
