Sheaffer Balances with white metal trim:

Lifetime Balances, including the short and stubby model, a Milady Skyboy, and a trio consisting of a Statesman and 2 Premier/OS models in the scarce Grey Pearl marble color

A couple more Lifetime Balances and a handful of long slender models (later called "Craftsman"), including one cherry red Loaner sans loaner imprint

Sheaffer Balance Juniors in every available color pattern, including a deluxe Jr. set on the end

Canadian Balances (5-30 and 3-25). Were these made in the US, many would be considered examples of "reverse trim." But this trim was actually standard in Canada.

Just to change the direction of this thread a bit, here's a couple of photos of my silver pens

    DSCN3946.JPG
    DSCN3948.JPG

    Montblanc 1266
    Parker 75
    Cross
    Yard-o-led Viceroy Barleycorn
    Visconti Watermark
    Otto Hutt Model 07
    Jack Row Mirage

It is noticeable how pens have grown over the years. In my youth I used to think that the Parker 75 was a fairly substantial pen.

Interestingly, the Cross is marked on the cap - CROSS .925 Silver Made in Ireland ATC LTD I didn't remember that Cross had a manufacturing facility in Ireland. Is it still there? Does anybody know what model it is? I only remember it a a Cross fountain pen, before they had different models.

That's a nice silver collection and in beautiful shape. How do you look after the pens - silver polish, lacquer? What's the secret? I have only one silver pen, a silver Waterman CF ballpoint, and it's horribly tarnished.

    Thank you.

Is your CF a moire? I love that pattern, I have a gold plated CF moire fountain pen. Lovely to look at, and a good writer. Unfashionably small & slim nowadays though.

    DSCN3809.JPG

I use a silver polishing cloth. Goddards make them, or there are plenty of others. They take a bit of rubbing if they have not been polished for a while. I'm not sure if a polishing cloth will remove serious tarnish, you may have to use a silver polish. I remember my mother using an old toothbrush to get into all the nooks and crannies.

Of course the secret is to use them all avery day, then they never tarnish.

The Jack Row pen is ruthenium plated, which never needs polishing.

"The secret is to use then all every day" - I'll admit my guilt there! I will look out for a Goddards cloth and give the pen a rub, hoping (a) to get it shiny and (b) to see if there's a CF genie who will pop out and grant all my wishes.

Yes, I have the moire. Like you, I love that finish.

I love hard rubber Conklin crescent-fillers because of their 115+ years-old look of obsolescence.

A little "20" is long gone. A "4NL" shattered when it hit the slate floor (I have the parts, but barrels and caps are getting hard to come by). A big "75" went to an eager fellow FPGeek in Maryland. Here's what's left, all of which have EF or F flex nibs. I keep them all because each nib exhibits a subtle variation in character, typical of nibs made that era. I really must let some into rotation again.

L to R: Conklin "4" BHR (ca. 1904), Conklin "3NL" Mottled HR, Conklin "3NL" BHR gold overlay, Conklin "40" BCHR, Conklin "40" BCHR, Conklin "40" clipless BCHR plain gold band, Conklin "4NL" BCHR engraved gold band, Conklin "50" BCHR, Conklin "50" flattop BCHR

I can't say how pleased I am that this thread is still alive!

I also got a new pen to contribute a new picture, the new is a Pelikan 400NN in light tortoise celluloid:

Stunning, Fred. I share your love of these but have also let a 75 go to someone who focused more intently on them. I recently picked up a MHR 3NL identical to yours after searching a long time for one in my price range. Just waiting for a #3 nib to complete it without exceeding that range.

    Here are my retractable pens.

    DSCN4139[1].JPG

Lamy Dialog 3 in piano white. Lovely smooth action to the retraction.
Stipula Da Vinci in carbon fibre. Three turns to retract, sort of negates the convenience of a retractable pen.
Pilot VP from the 1970s. We all know and love these.
Montblanc 1912 I don't see why this needs to be retractable if it has a cap, but who am I to question the great MB?

    DSCN4140[1].JPG

Just looking for an affordable Visconti Pininfarina. Are there any more that I have missed?
